underwater model shots!
HI, i need a hand here. I need a scene involving a shot of a sub in the sea and I need an under water shot. I've got the model and all ready, but how do i film under water, and what should I do for the water tank to hold the model sub in? Does anyone know how? Ta.

Watch the behind the scenes of Hunt For The Red October. You actually don't need water.

Well, with the proper lighting, you can make a blue backdrop look like under water.

I'd skip using water entirely like Gyro mentioned. Get a dark, dark blue backdrop, fill up the room you're in with either smoke or one of those fog machines (careful with breathing, of course. . .make sure you have air and so on), then light appropriately and just have the model in there. I believe that's the technique they used for the underwater Gungan city in Episode I.
People shouldn't be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.
heres what you should do.
get a fishtank, fill it with water, put the submarine inside it, and put like a dark piece of paper behind it...
a few other effects for it:
put a few drops of blue food coloring, and let it swish around naturally.
make the water look mucky and add some dirt to it.
shine a few flashlight at different angles from the top.
light insense and put that in front of the glass making the cameras view look foggy.
i think i might try and film this later to show what i mean.....

If you feel adventageous, you can make a waterproof box for your camera.
